About Rosenstigen

Rosenstigen is a local natural gem that feels worlds away in its tranquillity, despite being close to town. The trail is designed as a historical path of approximately 2 kilometres and is part of the Platåbergens Geopark. Here, you walk through an environment shaped by both geological forces and human hands since the Middle Ages. The name promises a beautiful setting, and while the nature changes character with the seasons, the path retains its charm year-round. In spring, the surroundings burst into bloom, while autumn paints the landscape in vibrant tones.

What can you do on Rosenstigen?

The main activity on Rosenstigen is, of course, hiking and exercise, but the site offers more than just the steps you take. Thanks to its location in Varnhem, it is easy to combine your walk with a visit to Kata Gård or to admire Skara Cathedral if you continue your journey towards the city.

Along the path, there are information boards telling the story of the area's rich history. It is an excellent spot for nature photography, as the play of light and varied vegetation provide many beautiful motifs. For those interested in flora and fauna, there are great opportunities to discover local plants and small animals along the way. It is also a popular spot for 'forest bathing' – simply sitting down for a moment to take in the calm of nature with all your senses.

Is Rosenstigen suitable for children?

Yes, Rosenstigen is an excellent excursion for families. The path is adventurous enough for children without being too difficult for small legs. For kids, the hike often turns into an exploration where they can look for interesting pine cones, spot finches, or simply run off some energy in a safe environment. Since the terrain is relatively flat, it suits most ages, making it a rewarding activity for the whole family during a visit to Skara. After your walk, a visit to Varnhem Abbey Café is a highly recommended stop for a traditional Swedish fika.

Tips for your trip to Rosenstigen:
