About Björnkullasand Swimming Area

Along the glittering shoreline of Lake Vänern, northeast of Hällekis, you will find Björkkullasand – one of Götene's hidden gems. Here, you are met by a scenic swimming area nestled within a municipal nature reserve, where the dense forest meets the water to create a sense of peace and seclusion. It is a place for those seeking a genuine nature experience rather than large facilities, with the wide horizon of Lake Vänern as your backdrop.

About Björkkullasand Swimming Area

Björkkullasand is distinguished by its beautiful combination of a small sandy beach and extensive rocky outcrops. For those who prefer to spread their towel directly on the sun-warmed rocks, there is plenty of space within the boundaries of the nature reserve, giving visitors a wonderful sense of freedom. The beach is small and intimate, perfect for a dip in the fresh waters of Lake Vänern after a day of excursions in the local area.

The swimming area is part of a natural site maintained by Götene municipality. Here, nature's own conditions prevail, and the surroundings invite more than just swimming. The surrounding forest and the reserve's trails make Björkkullasand an attractive destination for those who want to combine sun and swimming with a walk in the Skaraborg countryside.

Are there barbecue areas or jetties at Björkkullasand?

At Björkkullasand, facilities are deliberately simple to preserve the site's natural character. There is currently no constructed jetty, swimming float, or permanent barbecue area at the site. This means visitors enjoy a more natural dip directly from the beach or the rocks. For those planning to stay a little longer, it is a good idea to bring your own picnic basket to enjoy on the rocky ledges while the sun sets over Lake Vänern.

What is the swimming area like in Björkkullasand Nature Reserve?

The swimming area consists of a small sandy beach that transitions into beautiful rocks along the waterline. As the site is located in a nature reserve, the environment is characterised by untouched forest and a calmer atmosphere than at more central swimming locations. It is a place where the silence of nature is allowed to take centre stage, and where the focus is on a peaceful connection with the lake.

Tips for your visit to Björkkullasand:

  • Pack a proper picnic basket as there are no catering facilities or barbecue areas on site.
  • Bring swim shoes if you plan to swim from the rocks, as the terrain here is rugged and wild.
  • Bring a bag for your rubbish; even though waste disposal is available by the toilets, we all help to keep the nature reserve clean.
